Hair dressing is a massive industry that employs thousand of people throughout the UK. Although most salons specialise only in hair dressing, there are others we call beauty salons that offer a whole host of other services such as cosmetics, manicures and pedicures. Employees in these establishments regularly attend training courses to help keep them up to date with all the latest trends and techniques. Here are some descriptions of the services a client can expect to find when visiting a Beauty salon.

Cosmetics

ManicureCosmetic treatments are substances used to enhance/improve our appearance or to protect us from body odor. There are a number of cosmetic treatments available in beauty salons, such as skin-care creams, lotions, powders, perfumes, lipsticks, fingernail polishes, eye and facial makeup, and many other types of products. Cosmetics are a form of treatment that’s purpose is to cleanse, beautify and promote attractiveness, altering your appearance without affecting the body's structure or functions.

Manicures

Having a manicure means receiving cosmetic beauty treatments for your hands and fingernails. When having a manicure the client has a choice of either having treatment on just the hands, just the nails, or both. A manicurist will sit opposite you at a designated table in the salon to give treatment which for your nails usually consists of filing, shaping and then the application of polish. Where as treatment for your hands usually include soaking them in a softening substance and then application of hand lotion.

PedicureAnother service provided to clients when having a manicure is the application of artificial nail tips (also known as false nails), which come in a range of sizes to suit the clients taste. They are glued on top of the existing finger nail and can then be painted with pictures or designs and even accessorised by applying small decals or imitation jewels.

Manicures should be performed by trained individuals who are regulated and licensed by governing bodies, as the process involves skin being manipulated and sometimes trimmed. Not to mention the fact that there is a risk of infection when tools are used on multiple people, proper sanitation is critical.

Pedicure

People who wish to improve the appearance of their feet and toe nails can do so by having a pedicure, which is basically a manicure for the feet. A pedicure can also help prevent nail diseases and nail disorders.
